The Farmer’s Dog is on the higher end of the price spectrum when it comes to dog food. The prices range from $2 to $12 a day, and delivery options mostly range from 1 week to 3 months of food.

For my 20 lbs. dog, Mickey, the cost was estimated at $28 per week or $4 per day.

Does The Farmer’s Dog have negative reviews?
There are a few downsides that I found in the customer’s reviews, including their limited four recipes. So if your dog is very picky or gets bored easily of the same food, you might be out of luck.
The food takes up freezer space, which may be a bit inconvenient for people living in apartments with small fridges. However, this problem can be solved with some organization.
And the price ranges may not be suitable for pet parents on a budget.
What food is similar to The Farmer’s Dog?
Ollie and Nom Nom are other subscription models similar to Ther Farmer’s Dog. They also emphasize the use of fresh, human-grade ingredients and the involvement of board-certified nutritionists in formulating their recipes. However, there are some differences in their approach.
When it comes to pricing, Ollie’s food is slightly more expensive than The Farmer’s Dog, but they also offer baked kibble, which can make their food more affordable by combining fresh food and kibble. And if you’re looking for a slightly cheaper price, Nom Nom is a great alternative.
In terms of the recipes, these three brands offer chicken, beef, and turkey as core proteins, but they differ in the 4th flavor —The Farmer’s Dog and Nom Nom has a pork recipe, while Ollie offers a lamb recipe. These slight variations are excellent because give you alternatives.
And what about homemade food? This is also fresh food and cheaper, right? It will be actually cheaper. Potentially more work for you, but not a deal breaker. However, the trickiest part about feeding your dog with homemade food is to get the right portion control and the right balance of ingredients. Give your dog 1% more calories than they need and they will gain weight. Or if you don’t get the right balance of ingredients they will end up malnourished.

Is it really worth the hype?
In our opinion, it is. If you have the monetary resources and want to feed your dog with the best quality of food, we highly recommend this option. It is convenient because they get the right portion control. It is custom to your dog’s nutritional requirements. And they have tasty recipes that your dog will love.
