My Dog Loves His New Cooling Mat

Self cooling mat for dogs

This summer, the temperatures are getting extremely high, and as you may know, dogs don’t sweat like humans to regulate their body temperatures. They mostly use their paws and breathing to cool down, so it is way harder for them to stay comfortable in the heat.

If their body fails to cool down fast enough, there could be serious consequences. You are probably aware of this.

But for senior dogs, it is even a bigger challenge. Their bodies are not as efficient as a younger pup, and the heat puts their heart to work harder.

We need to be extra careful with them.

We saw our dog Mickey struggling a little bit more with the heat this year, and after doing our research on cooling products, we decided to give it a try to this self cooling mat from Inspectors Tail.

We got it about a month ago, and Mickey seems to love it! He has been using it to sleep and to chill next to us during the daytime.

The selling point for us was that this mat doesn’t have to be soaked in water or frozen to work. We saw many other products in the market that did needed to it.

How does the self cooling mat work, then?

It works by transferring the heat from your pet’s body to the top layer of fabric. And then, the mesh fabric at the bottom allows airflow and releases the heat. Quite clever, to be honest.

The top layer cools down quickly, too. We saw on the thermocamera that in less than 3 minutes it goes back to ambient temperature.

The Inspector Tail self cooling mat comes within a nice packaging and with a storage bag to bring it with you on your summer adventures.

They have 4 sizes available: M, L, XL, and XXL. We got the medium for our Shih Tzu dog.
