Training your dog shouldn’t feel like another chore, but it often does because, unless you’re a professional trainer, you have to research everything yourself first.

And that research can take looong.

Many of us have made the rookie mistake of binge-watching training videos on YouTube, only to barely remember a few things and feel like we wasted time that we could’ve spent with our dogs instead.

They feature a wide variety of content to address common behavior issues, keep the dog mentally stimulated and strengthen the bond between humans and their dogs.

The Dogo App stands out for having everything you need to raise an obedient and happy dog in one place. Their flagship feature is their courses (more on this later).

The founders created the app after experiencing firsthand the hustle of learning how to train their newly adopted dog.

My Experience Using the Dogo App with Mickey

Here’s a look at the core features we tried:

Courses

Dogo has around 14 courses to choose from their library (e.g. dog parenting 101, potty training, stop biting & chewing, city dog, stop jumping, etc.). These are modular courses that include a well-balanced mix of written information and practical exercises with videos and step-by-step instructions.

• We completed: Home Alone (to ease separation anxiety) and Office Dog (so Mickey stays calm during work calls).

Games

This was one of my favorite features from the app. Here you are going to find short activities that you can do with your dog on your walks or training sessions. Games are awesome because they keep your pup’s brain stimulated and strengthen the bond between you and them. I love that in the app, they break down the instructions into small steps, and they include videos in every step.

• We played: Easter Egg Search, which was a fun nose-work challenge that Mickey loved.

Exercises

Here you can find everything from basic obedience training to more advanced tricks to impress your friends. They will show you how to teach your dog pretty cool tricks like: close the door, figure 8, or clap clap.

These activities are also presented in small steps with videos and short text. These are pretty straightforward to start training your dog on the spot; you don’t need a lot of time to figure out how to teach them the trick.

You will also find a built-in clicker in the Dogo app—no need to buy a separate tool. Clickers are used to mark correct behaviors when training.

• We tried with Mickey the command “hush” to bark and stop on cue, which was super helpful when we have visitors and Mickey is trying to get attention.
• We also tried the classic commands “Sit” and “Down” as quick memory booster workouts.

Once your dog completes the exercise, you have the option to record a video and send it to the trainer for feedback.

Articles

They have a growing library of blog-style articles where you can find interesting information about nutrition, care, training, tips, dog psychology, and much more.

• I’ve been reading all their articles related to summer care, since it’s getting very hot this summer in North America.

Tracking

You can keep track of walks, daily activities, health reminders (like vaccinations, medicine, symptoms, etc). This was super handy for us because Mickey was taking antibiotics, and we were also monitoring pain symptoms in his legs.

You can also add multiple dogs and invite other family members to collaborate on the same pet profile.

Their resources will guide you through every step of the process, based on your dog’s needs, and even receive personalized feedback.

Considering that the alternatives are either doing your own research, which takes a long time, or hiring in-person training sessions, which is way more expensive and less convenient for a busy schedule, I think the Dogo app is a great option that solves those problems.

Of course, there’s room for small improvements (like occasional bugs), but the overall value, especially if you’re training at home, is outstanding.
